AM or Rational Screening - Harlequin Precision Screening
Harlequin Precision Screening (HPS) has long been recognized as a leading rational screening technology for halftone screening. HPS is an enhancement to conventional screening that uses a proprietary algorithm to calculate the screen angles and frequencies for a particular image that most effectively reduces moiré while minimizing memory requirements.

Harlequin Dispersed Screening (HDS) places dots of varying size in a pseudo-random way to produce the required tints. Advantages of this include increased apparent sharpness and the removal of cross screen and object moiré. This is achieved because the dots are dispersed instead of clustered as they are in traditional rational screen or AM screening.

Commonly referred to as Hybrid Screening, Harlequin HXM Screening is designed to improve print quality by increasing the output LPI for any given resolution. The intention with HXM is to limit the smallest structure produced to be that which can reliably be printed on the target system.
For example, if a printer is currently imaging plates at 2400 DPI with output at 150 LPI and is able to hold a 1% dot when printing on the required substrate, using HXM screens it would be possible to print at 200-250 LPI without any special pre-press or on-press requirements.

Hamillroad Software Ltd. has been capturing awards around the world with their Auraia Digitally Modulation or DM Screening Technology. Auraia 6 perfects stochastic screening as it not only achieves the high level of image detail long associated with FM stochastic screening, but also produces ultra-smooth flat tints that are as smooth as (or usually smoother than) AM conventional screening.
